PCB Bond Dispensing Inspection Information

NAVI AI Venus
The chip cut from the wafer consists of lead and body for easy operation. Fixing a chip to a lead frame is called bonding. Bonding work is done with a dedicated equipment, which is likely to fail due to several processes. To locate PCB Bonding and determine if it is bonded to that position, we used to use Pattern Matching or Detect Object. Pattern Matching is an application that finds a position like a registered template and Detect Object in application that finds the position of a Blob with a corresponding brightness value. If there is one type of PCB, you can set parameters well for inspection. However, no company produces only one kind of PCB. The PCBs that produce vary, so it is necessary to use a recipe that stores the parameters whenever the PCB model changes. Also, the results of the examination are not consistent with changes in the ambient environment, such as lighting and vibration.
Easy PCB Inspection, NAVI AI Venus (Position Detection S/W)


         
Vibration can occur in real-world production environments. Vibration means that the image taken is blurred, and it is not possible to distinguish the feature between the bonding and PCB parts as shown below. Part ① of Figure 1 is a PCB part, so it should not be detected, and part ② is bonding, so it should be detected. If you look at Figure 2, you can see that the part ① is not detected. In addition, there are many changes such as lighting differences in production environments. As you can see in Figure 4, the brightness of the light is strongly adjusted. The detection capabilities in Figure 2 and Figure 4 are unchanged. As we mentioned earlier, no company produces only one PCB. So, this time, only one kind of PCB was recognized, and the test was done with another kind of PCB. If you look at Figure 3, you can see that the position of the bonding is accurately detected. Vision inspection using NAVI AI Venus is not unique to PCB inspectio, but can be used in a variety of inspection items that require detecting.

PCB Parts Composite Inspection with NAVI?
The PCB inspection should be flexible depending on the situation. If an item of inspection is added at the request of the clients, or if there is no defect, it should be removed from the inspection. General vision inspection equipment or specialized vision inspections require large-scale construction as the inspection needs for PCBs change, and it is difficult to reuse existing programs.

The Vision S/W (NAVI) of LAON PEOPLE can configure scenarios as desired by the user in the Multi Sequence using 23 vision inspection tools. It is also possible to recall and modify the existing inspection methods. The tool can be manipulated on the GUI to create vision inspection without the need for programming, making it more convenient to use.

As a result, even if the PCB inspection situation changes, the changed inspection method can be created quickly by setting tools simply.

How much difference is the rate between vision PCB inspection and visual PCB inspection?
These two can vary by at least 10 times, up to 100 times.
Visual inspection increases time proportionally as more subjects are tested, but vision inspection rarely increases time (most of the time spent on vision inspection is used for image acquisition and UI marking).

What are the advantages of changing visual PCB tests to vision inspection?
The vision solution is much more cost-effective than the labor costs of PCB inspection.
The visual inspections vary in quality according to the condition of the inspector on that day, but the vision inspections are consistent with the inspection results.
Visual inspection cannot guarantee 100% reliability, but well-designed vision inspection ensures 100% reliability.

1. Inspection for Missing Parts
After the SMT process, the assembly can be completed using manual amount of parts by human.
The problem is a frequent missing of parts during manual mount process. The mix of work between development and production, input of new production personnel, new assembly tasks, and even skilled production staff can make mistakes according to their conditions on that day.
LAON PEOPLE's vision solution accurately determines missing parts with simple user operation without programming.






2. Counting for Number of Parts
PCB parts may mount many parts. (The number of parts may be increased by manual mounting)
The vision solution of LAON PEOPLE can also count the number of parts, and if the number of parts is insufficient or excessive based on the set number, it can also be handled as a defect.
Despite the high number of parts, the time required for vision inspection is very short (13ms for 30 parts, 58ms for 100 parts).




It is also possible to precisely count large quantities of parts if you have the time to set them up in details.





3. Inspection for the Reserve Mount of Parts
Errors in the direction of the part are other errors that can occur frequently during manual labor by the operator.
LAON PEOPLE's vision solution can use simple marks to identify the orientation of parts.




If there are no separate marks on the part, you can measure the angle of the point/line/figure using Geometry in the LAON PEOPLE's vision solution.
Geometry allows you to measure dimensions of parts at a micro level beyond determining reverse mount of parts.


4. Parts Color Inspection
Black and white tests do not exist only in PCB inspection. For certain parts, it is often color-specific, and it is easy to determine whether the correct parts are used to check the color of the LAON PEOPLE's vision solution.
(The general vision inspection camera appears in black and white, so color cameras are required for color inspection.)






5. OCR Reading (PART NUMBER)
PCB parts may contain identification letters (identifier numbers) of various parts, including the part number of the product.
Clients can use OCR readings to identify the product, or manage the parts used in one product.
LAON PEOPLE's vision solution uses its own OCR reading technology to transmit accurate character reading.

OCR Reading Performance of LAON PEOPLE 
Characters engraved on the PCB are often attached because of their narrow space characteristics. Third-party OCRs often fail to distinguish between attached characters, and setting the option to distinguish between attached characters often results in an error recognizing W character as 2 characters of V. LAON PEOPLE's OCR allows accurate product identification management by accurately classifying characters and transmitting readings.

3D Camera
Although almost all electronic packaging uses automated equipment, some parts may need to be mounted manually. Automated inspection of parts that are mounted manually is not easy to apply due to the of price of existing 3D inspection equipment/inconvenience of installation. In addition, manual inspection may not be carried out due to the condition of the inspector, the surrounding inspection environment, and the loss of concentration.




In (figure 1), when applying the existing 3D inspection after the manual mount procedure, the price and space limitation condition are followed. However, if you use the LAON PEOPLE 3D camera, you can implement the desired 3D inspection function using the 3D API of LAON PEOPLE in addition to the advantages of price and installation convenience.

(figure 2) and (figure 3) are examples of application of manual mount inspection using LAON PEOPLE's 3D camera. Based on the 3D images obtained, they show the clear difference of insufficient, excessive, and normal amount of solder.







(Figure 4) shows a case where it is impossible to inspect with 2D camera because the height of the outer case is high, but it can be inspected using 3D camera. Dual Camera allows you to acquire image information in the shadow area, and Dual Camera Mode can easily build an inspection environment using LAON PEOPLE 3D camera if you do calibration twice without purchasing a separate S/W.

Connector Pin Bending Inspection Information
The connector pins protrude outward, causing a large amount of defect in the field. Various pin defects can be detected using 2D vision test, and pin spacing and bending of connectors can be quantified.

The existing solution was not a problem with connector inspection performance, but expensive cost was a problem for clients. LAON PEOPLE solutions can build new equipment at the same performance and reasonable price.

  • ​Lighting makes the product (pin) look white silhouette.
  • The inspection detects the vertical and horizontal boundaries after detecting the boundary points using the brightness difference.
  • The inspection calculates the intersection of the vertical and horizontal boundaries.
  • The inspection field for each pin is set using the position information of the intersection.
  • The inspection detects objects with high Intensity values in each inspection field and calculates the center position.
  • The inspection calculates the distance between the vertical boundaries and the center position calculated from each inspection field.
  • The inspection then makes judgment for Pass/Fail on bending of pin at calculated distance.
  • The intersection points of vertical boundary (Line 1) and horizontal boundary (Line 2) is calculated and the inspection field of each pin is set using the position information of the intersection point.
  • The boundary point is detected using the difference in brightness between pins and background in each inspection field and vertical boundary (Line 3) and horizontal boundary (Line 4) is detected.
  • The distances between Line 3 and 1 and Line 2 and Line 4 are calculated/Calculated distances judge Pass/Fail on bent pins.
